Legacy Giving

We here at Arctic Slope Community Foundation are all about working to help improve the quality of life among the People of the North Slope. We support entities on the Slope that help people and bring people together.

We have had hard conversations about some of the issues that tear our people and families apart and one of those issues is intestacy, or dying without a will. It seems like we all know someone somewhere that is wrapped up in Probate Court. Siblings vs Siblings. Family vs Family. It’s sad. We here at ASCF believe our communities are stronger when we’re together in harmony.

That is why we have looked into ways to help mitigate that problem by being proactive instead of reactive. By working with an online third party (Freewill.com) we hope to help educate the People of the North Slope on standard estate documents and estate planning.

We understand it’s a difficult subject to talk about but by being proactive we can make life a little easier for our loved ones someday.

A specific bequest is best used for a fixed amount of money or specific item is being gifted.

Unrestricted Gift

Residuary Bequest

Contingency Gift

Ways to Give

A bequest is a gift made through a will or a living trust and costs nothing during the donor's lifetime, usually in the form of a specific dollar amount, percentage of an estate, or a gift of specific items. To avoid any possible question that your bequest is to our organization, be sure to include our full legal name and our federal tax identification number in your bequest.

Gifts of Cash

Gifts of cash are the quickest and easiest to make! Funds can be used immediately and the gifter can take a charitable income tax deduction.

Gifts of Retirement Assets

You may include the Arctic Slope Community Foundation as a designated beneficiary of a life insurance policy, IRA or other retirement plan, or of savings bonds if you do not expect to use all of your retirement assets during your lifetime. Benefits include avoiding estate tax on retirement assets, potential estate tax savings from estate tax deduction, and heirs can avoid income tax on these retirement assets.

Gifts of Real Estate

Donating appreciated real estate will help the gifter avoid paying capital gains tax on the sale and receive a charitable income tax deduction. When the donor’s estate is settled, the amount designated passes to the nonprofit and the donor’s heirs avoid income and estate tax.

Gifts of Personal Property

Gifts of property may include artwork, cultural artifacts, or antiques. This can help save income tax or capital gains taxes.
